Dark Sky Park

Black Mesa State Park

Certified 2025

A remote corner of the Oklahoma Panhandle where high plains meet shortgrass prairie, and where the park took down every streetlight to win back its sky.

Exceptional darkness. Dark enough that the Milky Way is obvious the moment you look up, with no town glow worth mentioning on any horizon. (Bortle 1–2, an estimate.)

The next stretch of moonless evenings is Nov 6–12.
